Cocktail Bar: Cloudy Sky

I often find myself attracted to cocktails by their name. Which was definitely the case with the sloe gin cocktail – Cloudy Sky.

What a romantic sounding drink!

Although, with so many to choose from, it took me a while to settle on the perfect sloe gin cocktail…

Cloudy sky, Cocktail, Alcohol, Sloe gin, Ginger ale, Lime juiceYou might have noticed a couple of weeks ago a conversation on Twitter about sloes and the fact they were in season, which then migrated in to the fact that it was sloe gin season, which then migrated into me craving a sloe gin cocktail!

I settled on Cloudy Sky for its simplicity and for its sharp taste. If you’ve never tried sloes before, be cautious with the amounts because although it can be quite sweet in itself, and with the addition of lime and ginger ale, you’re in for a sharp cocktail.

Sloe gin itself is agonisingly easy to make, but if you have neither the time nor patience, Gordon’s sloe gin is easy to get hold of and has a beautiful taste. And once you have your ingredients, it’s a couple of short steps to your perfect on-the-rocks Cloudy Sky…

You will need:

  • A highball glass
  • Ice cubes
  • A slice of lime for garnish

  • 2oz sloe gin
  • 1oz lime juice
  • 2oz ginger ale

Cloudy Sky, Alcohol, Cocktail, Lime juice, Sloe gin, Ginger aleHow to make it:

Simply pour your ingredients in to the highball over ice, add the lime garnish, and serve! It truly is that simple.

As a rule I’m not a fan of ginger ale, but the sloe gin softens it – this is the perfectly balanced cocktail. The drink itself should be a rich ginger colour, and cloudy (obviously). Make sure the cocktail is really cold before drinking to get the best from it.
