The Winter Tag

The Winter Tag, Beauty, Christmas, Winter, Bloggers

When I was still blogging under The Fashion Lover, I happened to meet a lot of wonderful bloggers at a meet in the Summer. One of these wonderful bloggers was Kimberley over at Kimberley’s Beauty Blog, and I’ve kept up with her blog and adventures ever since.

Now Kimberley is running one of those blogger tags whereby each blogger answers questions about themselves and then tags other bloggers to do the same. I love these things (mainly because I’m really nosy), and when Kimberley tagged me in her Winter Tag I got very excited (you can read the original post in full here).

The rules

– Share 12 random facts about yourself.
– Answer the 12 questions.
– List 12 bloggers you want to do the tag. They can be anyone you want.
– Let the bloggers know you nominated them.

The questions

What are your favourite things about Winter?

Winter is wearing comfy boots, the smell of wood fires, and mulled cider. Warm puddings like crumbles and pies too – there’s something so comforting about them – and I like being able to wear woolly jumpers and dark nail polishes.

I also love it when you’re walking back from a party and the sky is really clear and it’s crisp and cold – there’s something different about a clear Summer night sky and a Winter one. The Winter ones are my favourite.

And curiously enough, running. Every Sunday morning, Dad and I go for a long run – if it’s a bright, clear day, it’s one of the best feelings.

What is your favourite Winter outfit?

Dark skinny jeans with riding boots, a thick, cosy jumper and a cape (I’m currently obsessed with a grey one from H&M my sister gave to me). I like dressing up as well – dresses and heels. Winter parties are always more glamorous.

What is your favourite Winter food?

It has to be roast dinner (with all the trimmings). Of course, my mum’s is the best…

Favourite Winter drink?

Tough one! Disaronno and cranberry juice if we’re talking alcoholic, but a peppermint hot chocolate if not.

What is your dream way to spend a Winter’s day?

In front of the fire, with a good book, a cup of tea, with the prospect of a family dinner later.

How do you like to do your make-up in the Winter?

I try to keep my skin as nourished as possible, so not too many products! Make-up isn’t such an issue with me – black eye liner or a red lipstick generally – but I take a lot more time on my skincare in Winter, with some deep-nourishing face masks and lots of moisturiser. I switch from wearing bronzer to a warm blush too – I like Benefit’s Dandelion, £23.50, for a faintly flushed cheek.

What are you hoping Santa brings you?

Some flat, black riding boots and lots of beauty products! My Christmas lists are often quite practical – replenishing skincare products etc. I always have a book on there too – which I have finished by New Year! This time it’s MaddAddam by Margaret Atwood.

What are the first three things that remind you of Winter?

The first frost (when everything seems to be surprised by it and so the trees are still gold-red-green), roasting parsnips and dark evenings.

What is your favourite Winter song?

Unfortunately years of retail have turned me in to a bit of a Grinch when it comes to Christmas songs – I don’t like any of them! There’s always music in our house, but if I had to pick, I would say Michael Bublé or Kylie Minogue’s The Abbey Road Sessions. They’re Mum’s favourites really but they make me think of Sunday roasts and Christmas.

What is your favourite Winter memory?

My favourite Winter memory is going sledding in the snow in 1995 (just before we moved from Gloucestershire to Hampshire, so I know exactly when it was). My sister, Mum, and Jackie and Charlotte (Charlotte was my age and Jackie was her mum) went out to one of the steep fields their house – we lived in a little village in a valley so there were plenty to choose from – and spent all day whooshing down the hill to the frozen stream at the bottom. We made snowmen and got so cold my lips turned blue. We were given hot chocolate and blankets when we got back to Jackie’s house and snuggled up with their little Westie in front of the telly as it got dark. That felt like a Proper Winter.

What is your favourite Winter scent?

Almonds. When I was a kid it was roasting almonds and bakewell tart and marzipan and all those warm, foody smells. I think that’s why I love Disaronno!

Finish this sentence… If I could have one wish this Christmas it would be…

My friends and family to be happy, safe, and healthy. Oh, and a puppy.
