TV Review: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D 7
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D – episode seven – The Hub
*mild spoilers alert*
Move over Ward, you chisel-jawed all-American you. I think I’ve just fallen in love with the puppy-ish, heart-on-his-sleeve, Scotsman that is Fitz.
This episode is nothing remarkable in the grand scheme of things – Ward and Fitz are sent on a mission by top agents at The Hub (a sort of HQ) to deactivate a super-weapon. Cue some bromance as they set off in to the field.
Meanwhile, we’ve also got some girl power going on as Skye, Simmons and May unite to rescue the duo from the suicide mission.
As I said, there’s nothing remarkable about this episode, but something about it made me realise how much I love this series. The witty repartee, the peril, the adventure. It’s all combining to create a cult favourite. So the viewers have dropped away – we didn’t need them anyway. We just need a hardcore set of fans who understand the Marvelverse Whedon is helping to create.
Fitz is purely adorable in this episode, and Ward starts to become more endearing. Even May gets some depth. The characters are rounding off, there’s some lovely will-they-won’t-they, and right at the end we get the teaser we’ve all been waiting for… twice!
First, we get a hint of Skye’s background from Coulson. But then he goes and confuses it all again by being mysterious. And then we get a tiny glimpse of Coulson at last coming to realise that all is not what it seems with his recovery – and that he’s not prepared to just accept the story he’s fed any more.
What a treat! I’m chomping at the bit for the next episode already. Yay for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D!
