December Bookclub: The Five People You Meet in Heaven

Saturday 30 November 2013 by

December Bookclub is upon us, and this month’s choice is The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom!

December is one of those months that speed by, and before you know it, you’ve blown your money on crazy presents, you’ve eaten too much turkey and now you’re staring at a Christmas tree which has a slight lean to it (because the cat tried to climb it and get the fairy at the top) and you’re facing the prospect of partying through New Year.

Sound familiar? But December isn’t all terrible, and as much of a Grinch as I pretend I am, I do like (most of) Christmas.

But December no longer means JUST Christmas! Now it means one more thing: a new book for the House of Blog Bookclub! If you’re on Twitter or Facebook, you’ll have spotted this month’s choice already…

‘All endings are also beginnings. We just don’t know it at the time…’

On his eighty-third birthday, Eddie, a lonely war veteran, dies in a tragic accident trying to save a little girl from a falling cart. With his final breath, he feels two small hands in his – and then nothing. He awakens in the afterlife, where he learns that heaven is not a lush Garden of Eden but a place where your earthly life is explained to you by five people who were in it. These people may have been loved ones or distant strangers. Yet each of them changed your path forever.
