Carolina Herrera SS’14

Carolina Herrera – the queen of ethereal beauty and organza accents. A celebrity favourite, Herrera’s rise in to the spotlight is well-deserved, with clear-cut and confident collections designed for every girl’s inner princess.

Her Spring/Summer 2014 collections are sprightly and graphic, with bursts of florals in her pre-SS’14 collection that envelop gowns and jumpsuits, cute tea dresses and sharp-collared blouses. Red-white-and-blue stripes encircle column-like shapes and sporty tastes will fit comfortably alongside the hippy within.

For her Ready-to-Wear, Herrera has been inspired by the Kinetic Art movement and Venezuelan artists Carlos Cruz-Diez and Jesus Rafael Soto. Veiling and layering with that familiar organza gave it a dream-like feel. Monochrome, pleats, organza panels and cotton shirts are on the shopping list for Herrera’s clientele, with billowing gowns for an evening soiree. It is a more muted colour palette here, with burnt orange, moss green and brown-creams, shot through with the odd dash of coral or fuschia, instead relying on the cut of the fabric and the complexity of the pattern to bring it all to life.

I find myself imagining the grand balls I would attend in a Carolina Herrera; traipsing the red carpet clad in organza and layers. Dreamy.
