Cocktail Bar: Designated Appletini

Friday 31 January 2014 by

Rejoice! Today is the last day of Dry January. How have you been getting on?

To celebrate, why not make the last of the mocktails? This time, the House of Blog cocktail bar is mixing up the designated appletini. If you’re not worried about staying off the booze, I’ve included a full-blown appletini recipe at the bottom.

Designated appletini, Apple juice, Mocktail, Cocktail, Lemon

You will need:

  • Martini glass
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Ice
  • Slice of apple to garnish

  • 60ml (freshly pressed) apple juice
  • 15ml simple syrup*
  • Dash of lemon juice (around 7ml if you’re being exact)
  • Sugar for the glass rim

Designated appletini, Mocktail, Cocktail

How to make it:

Rim a chilled martini glass with sugar (try using a tiny bit of lemon juice for a kick). Pour the apple juice, lemon juice and simple syrup over ice in a cocktail shaker and give it a good shake, until it froths slightly. Strain in to the glass and garnish with a slice of apple.

*Simple syrup is just sugar syrup – get a good recipe here.

Add the alcohol:

The recipe recommends adding a dash of vodka or gin, but then why would you do that, when you could simply make a proper appletini!?

There a lot of variations of the appletini (it’s basically a vodka-based cocktail with apple liqueurs), but the best one I’ve found is the Lost Saloon apple martini recipe. You’ll need 3 shots-worth of vodka (Grey Goose), one shots-worth of apple schnapps, another shots-worth of Cointreau and an apple slice for garnish. A shot measurement is roughly between 25 and 35ml if you’re unsure. In much the same way as the non-alcoholic version, you need to shake well in a cocktail shaker with ice and pour in a chilled martini glass. Enjoy!
