Top 5 DVDs to Watch if You’re Ill

Monday 3 February 2014 by

I’m ill. I’m a terrible ill person. I get very sorry for myself and spend a lot of time moping. I’ve spent the weekend ignoring it* as (let’s be honest) it’s only a cold and I should really get a grip. But it did make me think about my other favourite method of countering illness: vegging out.

Grab a cup of tea, stay in your pyjamas, and set up for a duvet day, because I’ve picked the top five DVDs to watch when you’re ill (or just have a day off)…

Breaking Bad, TV, DVD

1.       Breaking Bad

There is one reason and one reason only that this is on the list: I have yet to see it. I think I must be the only person in the world not to have seen Breaking Bad yet, so I figure that a sick day is probably a good day to watch the entirety of season one.

Much Ado About Nothing, Joss Whedon, Shakespeare, DVD, Film

2.      Much Ado About Nothing

Not an immediately obvious choice, but Joss Whedon’s adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing is just gorgeous. It’s the right blend of humour and romance and wit to make it a proper feel-good film. It’s one to watch with your favourite ice cream to hand, for that extra-indulgent experience.

Supernatural, TV, Winchesters

3.      Supernatural

If I’m honest, whenever I have a spare couple of hours, then I tend to stick an episode of Supernatural on (see previous post about being too much of a fan…) Sam and Dean pretty much cure everything. I think it should be on prescription.

Brave, Disney, DVD, Film

4.      Brave

There’s got to be a Disney film in there somewhere. Brave is one of my favourite (recent) Disney films, even if it does make me cry. Although if we’re going for a classic, it’s got to be Beauty and the Beast – Belle is my kind of girl.

Paranormal Activity, Horror, DVD, Film

5.      Paranormal Activity

This should also be on prescription: scare that illness right out. Some people aren’t phased by Paranormal Activity at all, but this scares the living daylights out of me. Especially since I’ve only ever watched it with a raging temperature, which probably is not the best method. However, I do love scary films and my duvet day isn’t complete until I watch one (in the middle of the day just so I’m not TOO scared).

What do you watch when you’re having a duvet day?

*More about the weekend later!

I’ve never seen breaking bad either. Or brave. Or, in fact, anything on this list except for Supernatural. I feel out of touch.
