Shin Pain and Long Hot Baths

I love running. I love the feeling it gives me when I’m getting pumped to go out, how I feel when I run that little bit faster or further and the satisfaction I get after I finish (once I’m past the Help me, I’m going to die, never again phase). I’ve never been one to follow a strict running programme, I prefer to just go and run. But after my fair share of injuries, obstacles and long distance runs, I decided that if I’m in this for the long haul I need to give myself a bit of structure.

I am currently in training for my next half marathon and race day is getting closer. Once again, I have been stumped mid training by a niggle. That niggle is shin pain, weyhey. I have experienced this before, but give myself a few days rest and try to run it off. I cannot explain how annoying injury is. It stops you dead in your tracks, and there is nothing you can do but rest.

However, in my dismay I have decided to try something new! Asides from ibuprofen, ice and hot baths I have invested in some calf compression supports in the hope that they will help alleviate some pain. After reading multiple reviews which praise the compression guards, and some that say they help with shin pain, I’ve got myself a pair of Compressport R2 Race & Recovery Calf Guard from trusty Wiggle. They claim to enhance performance, prevent injury and aid recovery. They are available in a variety of colours, so are great for visibility and vanity (I got myself a pair of the bright pink ones… excited much!)

I can’t wait to try them. I am really hoping these help with my shin pain and performance so will let you know how I get on with them.

Have you ever tried compression technology? What did you think? Did it help you?
