5 Apps for Book Lovers

Wattpad, App

Wattpad is an online community for readers and writers. There are millions of free stories to read, from teen fiction to horror to fanfiction. Wattpad is also a social element. Readers can leave comments on stories they’ve read, and interact with the author and each other.

Goodreads, App

If you’re a book lover and don’t have a Goodreads account, get yourself over there and sign up. It’s a great way of keeping track of your reading, finding new book recommendations and participating in bookish discussion. And the app puts all of that on your mobile device in an easy to use format.

ComiXology, App

ComiXology is like Kindle store for comics. Browse, download and read thousands of different comics on your phone or tablet. There are loads of freebies for grabs, so if you aren’t big on comic books but want to dip your toes in the water, this is a great place to start. Many of the other downloads are at massively reduced prices compared to their print counterparts, so there’s plenty of savings to be made.

Free Books, 23469 Classics to Go, Books, App

Free Books – 23, 469 Classics to Go

This handy little app will make sure you’re never short of a book to peruse ever again. Free Books gives you access to public domain content – which for those of you who haven’t heard the term before, is anything for which the intellectual property rights have expired, making them free for public use. Their library includes the works of Shakespeare, the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin and many more.

Podcasts, iOS, Apple, App, Music, Sound, Radio

Any Podcast App

Many writers are serialising their books and releasing them for free using podcasts. Just do a quick search of the ‘literature’ (or equivalent) category to bring up a whole load of great stories. The production qualities vary on these podcast books – some straight readings, others with sound effects and voice actors – but they’re usually very listenable, and a great introduction to many authors you may not have otherwise discovered.
