Cocktail Bar: Harpoon

The precursor to the cosmopolitan (probably one of my favourite cocktails), the Harpoon is a 1960s cocktail involved vodka and Cointreau. It’s fresh and delicious and a nice twist on the usual cosmo flavours.

You will need:

  • Coupette glass (failing that, a martini glass)
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Ice
  • Lime wedge for garnish

  • 50ml vodka
  • 25ml orange liqueur
  • 2 tsp lime cordial
  • 25ml cranberry juice

How to make it:

Place your ingredients in to the cocktail shaker with ice and give it a good shake. Strain in to the glass – as I said, don’t worry if you don’t have a coupette glass (a rounded martini-like glass with a lip), a martini glass will do. It’s very similar to the cosmo, with the sharpness of the cranberry and vodka, but the extra lime cordial makes it ever so slightly different, and gives a sweet kick to a familiar taste. If you’re a fan of vodka and Cointreau (and thus the cosmopolitan) it’s a nice change to get that lime twist. Enjoy!
