New York Fashion Week SS’15: Fashion Round Up

Saturday 13 September 2014 by

September: in fashion that heralds the start of next year’s fashion trends, with a month of Fashion Weeks, high heels, crazy hair and little sleep. Here at House of Blog, rather than go overboard into the “bold print”-infested waters with the rest of the fashion pack, I will be picking the best of each Fashion Week for your perusal. First up, we have last week’s New York Fashion Week…

Top Three Trends for SS’15

Adam Selman, NYFW, SS'15, Sports luxe, Vogue, Fashion

Sports Luxe

This summer trend isn’t going anywhere. Make like Adam Selman and team California-inspired shapes with a 90s twist. Co-ords are perfect for a sporty look too, pick next season’s co-ords in block colours and team with bright accessories.

Tess Giberson, NYFW, SS'15, Fashion, White, Vogue

White will always  be a popular summer colour, but take it one step further start to wear completely white- according to Tess Giberson, you won’t need anything else. To avoid looking like you’re about to play at Wimbledon, try some bright accessories (fruity orange colours are popular for SS’15) and mix up the textures.

Monique Lhuillier, SS'15, NYFW, Fashion, Vogue, Metallic

Whether bold and brassy, or just a subtle sheen, you’re going to be seeing a lot of metallics in the highstreet. Monique Lhuillier’s demure prom dress is the perfect transition if you’re not ready for all-out shine.

Top Five Shows at NYFW SS’15

Alexander Wang, Fashion, NYFW, SS'15, Vogue

Alexander Wang

Fierce silhouettes are Alexander Wang’s staple, so it’s no surprise to see them here again. This time, though, they were teamed with stretchy, high-heeled, neon trainers. The scuba dresses went perfectly with them, but for me it was the streamlined blazers and the giant striped waist cinchers. Imagine half-corset waists and super-long legs. I always love Alexander Wang.

Victoria Beckham, Vogue, Fashion, SS'15, NYFW

Victoria Beckham

We all knew the great Victoria Beckham would turn up in this list. Although, if I’m totally honest, her designs were nothing groundbreaking (safari minidresses, knitted tube dresses and the careful tailoring that Mrs Beckham wears herself). But her shoes and bags on the other hand… Teal platforms and huge bucket bags and crocodile-style box bags. I’m sold… get me to Mayfair.

Christian Siriano, Fashion, Vogue, NYFW, SS'15

Christian Siriano

We already know my never-ending love for Christian Siriano – if I ever walk a red carpet, it’s got to be in one of his designs! And one thing that he does best is spring/summer. His simple colour palettes (this year it blends from white to mint green to electric blue) make each textured piece a statement. This year saw wispy feathers, rippling drapes of fabric and delicate, lace-like florals.

Jason Wu, Fashion, Vogue, SS'15, NYFW

Jason Wu

Already being described as “safe” and “familiar”, Jason Wu still steals my heart with his latest collection. Instantly wearable separates in muted shades, shirtdresses with tasteful Mandarin collars, whilst others had still-sophisticated plunging necklines (how does he do that!?) The favourite shades of blue and green were back, with dove greys and burnt orange.

Gareth Pugh, SS'15, Fashion, Vogue, NYFW

Gareth Pugh

Gareth Pugh had to have the most memorable show yet. Described as an “immersive live performance”, the models were choreographed in a Cirque du Soleil-style display, with breathtaking results. Of course, the showstopper was the model all in white, suspended above the crowd, but the artful performance really did complement the designs.

Top Beauty Tip for SS’15

Alexander Wang, Fashion, Beauty, Backstage, Vogue, SS'15, NYFW

Forget a “bold lip” or “statement eyeliner”, this summer you’ll be focussing on the contouring. Seen on several catwalks (including Alexander Wang), contouring is all about the bronzed cheekbone, nude and metallic eye, and perfectly shaped brow. Invest in a brown and gold eye shadow, lots of dewy lip gloss, a strong bronzer, and the perfect brow brush.

Desigual, Camille Row, Fashion, SS'15, NYFW, Front row, Poppy Delevingne, Olivia Palermo

Desigual was blessed with the triple style hits of Camille Row, Poppy Delevingne and Olivia Palermo on the front row. I am totally in love with Olivia Palermo’s look, and I expect we’ll be seeing a lot more lip prints on the highstreet very soon!
