Paris Fashion Week SS’15: Fashion Round Up

Saturday 4 October 2014 by

Last, but by no means least, on the September Fashion calendar is the trés chic Paris Fashion Week (sorry, I couldn’t resist). It’s a stylish finale, with extra stylish designers.

Top Three Trends for SS’15

AF Vendevorst, RTW, Fashion, Paris Fashion Week, SS'15

Fairytale

So Vivienne Westwood might have done it best, but the catwalks were swamped with tales of Grimm. Even AF Vandevorst had a hint of Hansel and Gretel about its futuristic style. Think ethereal, flowing skirts, Red Riding Hood capes and rippling fabrics.

Olympia Le Tan, RTW, Fashion, Paris Fashion Week, SS'15

Preppy

If anyone did preppy best, it was Olympia Le Tan this year. Clean cut, navy and bottle green, pleated skirts with blazers and boater hats; pinstripes, candy stripes, and stationary-inspired prints that I am absolutely coveting. Can I use the phrase “back to school” yet!?

Loewe, RTW, Fashion, Paris Fashion Week, SS'15

Mellow Yellow

No matter the shade, you will want to go yellow this season. Even Loewe allowed a splash of banana yellow on the catwalk. For the perfect SS’15 look, pick a bright yellow or muted tone, like a champagne or buttercup.

Top Five Shows at PFW SS’15

Corrie Nielsen, RTW, Fashion, Paris Fashion Week, SS'15

Corrie Nielsen

Think Sixties crossed with The Jetsons. Far-out beehives, bold silhouettes and hooped skirts. It was kept simple with a palette of lemon, champagne, ivory and chocolate, shimmering fabrics and the odd puffer-jacket-esque volume. It was almost too out-there, but Corrie Nielsen balances the line perfectly, and has created a collection that makes a bold statement.

Balenciaga, RTW, Paris Fashion Week, Fashion, SS'15

Balenciaga

It was a glossy affair at Balenciaga – and I’m not talking about the Balenciaga-clad Kanye and Kim Kardashian with baby in front row. With a respectful nod to the Balenciaga legacy, Alexander Wang flaunted his love of modernism – think tailored sports-luxe. There were futuristic fabrics and mesh, black and white, lavender and peach pastels, floor-length coats open all the way and mid-length dresses sharp enough for the office. The jumpsuits were articulated with crystals, and everything felt smooth and fearless – the perfect marriage of Balenciaga glamour and Alexander Wang fierceness.

Roland Mouret, RTW, Fashion, Paris Fashion Week, SS'15

Roland Mouret

The latest offering from Roland Mouret was a refreshing, summery silhouette full of femininity and youthfulness and oh-so wearable. Bright greens, sorbet pastels, asymmetric hems and sharp shorts. It was Roland Mouret at his signature best.

Vivienne Westwood, RTW, Fashion, Paris Fashion Week, SS'15

Vivienne Westwood

Think gothic Little Red Riding Hood and Snow White. Think doll-like silhouettes and billowing capes. Vivienne Westwood is an expert in marrying futuristic precision with romanticism. Colours are relatively muted this season, but the patterns and fabrics are rich and sumptuous. This was the perfect representation of what Paris Fashion Week is about.

Givenchy, RTW, Fashion, Paris Fashion Week, SS'15

Givenchy

Think pirate-goth-romantic-Matrix woman, and you’re halfway there with the latest collection from Givenchy. The artfulness was in the marrying of whimsical lace, billowing blouses and flashes of warm pink with the thigh-high boots, leather leggings and crocodile-panelled waistcoats. Apart from that blush pink ruffled leather dress midway through, this was an entirely monochrome affair, with Beetlejuice stripes and plunging necklines. Don’t be surprised when you see me dressed as a pirate goth next summer!

Top Beauty Tip for SS’15

Viktor & Rolf, RTW, Fashion, Beauty, Paris Fashion Week, SS'15

Much like Viktor & Rolf‘s simple affair, go for a nude face this summer (what a surprise). Go with golds and bronzes to create a shimmer.

Best FROW at PFW

Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Fashion, Paris Fashion Week, SS'15, Balenciaga

Well, there’s really no question about it – the frequent appearances of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian (with baby North in tow) at the likes of Balenciaga and Givenchy, had to take the FROW crown. Always head-to-toe in the designer’s gear, they stole the limelight wherever they went.
