It’s never fun trying to find a decent moisturiser for oily skin. Even the ones that claim to be specifically designed FOR oily skin have a habit of giving you an unattractive shine, or clogging up your pores and adding to the breakouts.

But I always hear people sing the praises of Origins, and so grabbed a pot of their High-Potency Night-A-Mins, £34.50, what they describe as a “mineral-enriched oil-free renewal cream” (this is all a posh way of saying night moisturiser). I don’t use an awful lot of moisturiser in the day – just a dab along with my Estée Lauder Pore Minimizing Skin Refresher serum does the trick – so my night moisturiser has to work hard.

In terms of consistency, it goes on light, with a smooth, silky finish (always a good sign for oily skin products) and soaks in quickly, leaving little to no shine, and only a small amount goes far. The lightness has meant I don’t feel like I’m clogging my pores, and as far as I can see, it hasn’t influenced any breakouts! However, its confident claim that it gets rid of “dull skin” I would put to question. In the mornings my face certainly seems firmer and plumper, but I’m not sure about “radiant” (but that could be the fact it’s 5.30am and I’m grouchy)! And the smell takes a bit of getting used to as well. Rather than a refreshing citrus scent, it does have a smell more like that of the orange cream from a tin of Roses – almost too sweet. It takes a bit of getting used to.

Although I wouldn’t say that it’s worth every penny (£34.50 is a bit steep for a 50ml pot, even if it does last a while), I am impressed by the silkiness of the moisturiser, and my skin- for all its redness and breakouts- seems to be calm enough when using it. Life-changing? Perhaps not. But life-pleasing? Certainly.
