I have to hold my hands up – I’m terrible at washing my make-up brushes. I have a couple of sets of Real Techniques brushes (prices range from £9.99 to £29.99 at Boots) that I use with great enthusiasm; they are good quality brushes with precision style. But they tend to look a bit forlorn after a while, as do the other brushes I have (old favourites and some No7 brushes). So I picked up the Clinique makeup brush cleanser (£13 from Boots) in an attempt to be better at maintenance. I’ve seen several beauty bloggers using it, and if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for me.

It’s always a good thing to keep your brushes clean – especially if you suffer from breakouts and oily skin. It stops germs spreading, and prolongs the life of the brushes. There are two ways to clean with the Clinique cleanser – for regular cleans, squirt a little bit onto each side of the brush and use a clean cloth or tissue to wipe off. Or you can more thoroughly clean them in a small amount of warm water with the cleanser. Whatever you do, remember to leave your brushes to dry in a well-ventilated place! Don’t just pop them back in your make-up bag or drawers.

I was impressed by the results; the brushes looked almost new, and felt light and clean when I used them too. But for £13, I hope it lasts a while! Clinique can verge on the pricey side, and it’s definitely the case for this. I don’t often spend £13 on something that is effectively a posh cleaner!

  1. I used to use baby shampoo, but there is a reason to make professional make up brushed cleansers. I tried the Clinique’s one and I felt in love with it! It saves so much time and the final result is great- my brushes also look like new!
