Cocktail Bar: Gingerbread Old Fashioned

Friday 14 November 2014 by

You may well argue that this doesn’t count as a cocktail, but just a rather fancy whisky. And you may well be right. But when it tastes this good, who cares! This festive gingerbread old fashioned is fresh from the archives over at House of Bourbon. Just in time to build up to the festive season, this warming ginger old fashioned is just perfect for sipping in front of the fire.

Ingredients:

  • Barspoon-worth of gingerbread syrup
  • 60ml whisky
  • Dash of bitters
  • Amaretto cherry to garnish

How to make it:

You can get gingerbread syrup from most specialist stores (or even Starbucks), but you can make it by adding a pinch of ground ginger and ground cinnamon to plain sugar syrup. Add a barspoon of it to the whisky and bitters in the mixing glass and add ice. Give it a good stir to mix well. Strain in to an old fashioned glass and garnish with an amaretto cherry.

You certainly have to like whisky for this (I recommend a bourbon or single malt), and the gingerbread syrup really warms it up, making it the perfect post-Christmas dinner drink. Hats off to House of Bourbon!

  1. Thanks! Glad you liked it. What whisky did you use?

I used a bourbon, but think it would perhaps be better with a single malt. I shall just have to try it again! 😉
