Welcome back to week eighteen of my Marathon Series, as I blog my way to a marathon – from beginner to 26.2 miles. This week, we’re talking about doing a marathon for real.

So I know this series started a while ago, and I’ve been talking about running this marathon for weeks now. But all of a sudden, it’s got very real. And that’s because I’ve finally signed up to one! The Bristol to Bath marathon is on 25th October – which makes it 192 days away.

Suddenly things feel incredibly real. Which adds an extra amount of pressure. Suddenly you’re not just running for fun any more. Suddenly you’re running for a serious reason. You have 26.2 miles to run in 6 months and you’re not entirely sure you’re ever going to make it. But you have to be serious about things now – no excuses and no “I’ll run tomorrow”.

And this is all terribly scary. Because now the goal is real and determined. And I have a deadline to keep. So it’s time to put on those trainers and get running!

Have you set a goal? How are you preparing?

Don’t forget to let me know how you’re getting on, using the hashtag #HoBFitness. And check back soon, when we’re talking about designing the perfect training programme.
