Welcome back to week twenty two of my Marathon Series, as I blog my way to a marathon – from beginner to 26.2 miles. This week, we’re reviewing the Armpocket.

Now I don’t have a running buddy to keep me occupied, I often find running boring as hell. Be honest, hearing the tramp-tramp-tramp of your own feet can get a bit dull. So, despite always saying I won’t run with music, I decided to invest in an Armpocket. Admittedly, this was not for music initially, but rather a convenient place to keep my phone and keys when running. But the idea of a motivational soundtrack was just too much to resist, and with handy little holes for headphones, the Armpocket is perfect.

For iPhone 6, I would recommend getting the Armpocket i-35. It’s big enough for your phone (plus keys and money), but also big enough for your phone case if you have one, so there’s no complicated fiddling around. It has an elastic strap to hold the phone in place, padded pockets to protect your keys and money, and a clear front so you can use your phone even when it’s in the pocket. Plus, it promises to be waterproof (to an extent – don’t try that theory in a downpour and hailstorm, trust me) and is comfortably padded even on the Velcro strap so there is no rubbing. In fact, all in all, it promises the world when it comes to arm straps.

And, of course, I had to get a pink one to match my trainers. They come in 3 sizes (medium is for arms 9-11 inches around), but the strap is also adjustable to an extent, so you can keep it as loose or as tight as you need.

But did it work?

Apart from the water-logged mishap in the middle of a hailstorm, yes! It’s comfortable, not too distracting, and the plastic front means I can easily play around with music and my running app without difficulty. The only disappointment comes when trying to take a picture – it can be quite a faff getting it out of the Armpocket to take a picture and then putting it back without losing stride. Of course, this is only an issue if you’re photo-logging your runs as I am!

As for headphones, it’s got a little Velcro hoop on the side so the wire doesn’t swing around whilst running, and it has a little hole at the bottom 0f the Armpocket so you can still play music and keep the pocket zipped shut. Music is a bit of a new experience for me, but I’ve downloaded some running playlists from Spotify (do give me recommendations of more!) which seem to work well. I just have a pair of JVC wraparound headphones, but am keen to find ones that are more likely to stay put in my tiny ears (again, recommendations are welcome).

I’m a bit in love with my Armpocket, all truth be told. I don’t have to worry about my phone or keys, I can play music to keep myself occupied, and it’s a perfect match for my pink trainers. I don’t how I survived without it for so long!

Do you have an Armpocket or are you considering getting one?

Don’t forget to let me know how you’re getting on, using the hashtag #HoBFitness. And check back in a soon when we’re talking about increasing distances.
