I’ve always avoided oils and serums as a rule because I’ve been fearful of adding to my oily skin. But the Body Shop Vitamin E overnight serum-in-oil, £13 has managed to convince me to give it a go.

With a handy dropper, you simply drop a couple of drops onto your fingers and smooth over your face and neck. A little goes a long way, and it glides on smoothly and soaks in quickly. It has that soft, clean smell that all the Vitamin E products do which makes it nice for the evening.

It hasn’t added to the oil in my skin – in some ways it’s helped – but then it isn’t fixing the oily patches. It has made my skin a lot smoother and softer, waking up refreshed and clean. However, I haven’t seen the wondrous changes that I’m always promised with using an oil or serum – it doesn’t seem to be the magic potion that everyone implies. For £13, it’s a bargain, because you really only do use a tiny amount at a time, so it lasts ages. And perhaps the long term effects are more impressive, but I would only recommend this to someone if they feel they really need to add it to their routine to wake up their skin.
