5 Things to do in London this Winter

Tuesday 27 October 2015 by

Halloween is this weekend. Which can only mean one thing (not counting the ghosts): winter is upon us. The Autumn leaves have scattered and there’s the office cold to suffer through. But fear not, because here are the five best things to do in London this coming winter…

Victorian Christmas, London Museum of Water and Steam, London, Christmas, Winter

A Victorian Christmas

Less Oliver Twist and more the fun parts of A Christmas Carol, head over to the London Museum of Water and Steam on the 5th December for a traditional Victorian Christmas, complete with mulled wine and Christmas carols.

Somerset House, London, Ice skating, Winter

Skating at Somerset House

Well, no winter in London would be complete without the traditional falling-flat-on-your-backside at the ice rink at Somerset House. The rink opens on the 18th November and runs until January, but you do have to book a ticket!

Southbank Centre, Winter, London, Festival

It’s back, bigger and better. The Southbank Centre Winter Festival has something for everyone, so expect to need several visits between 4th December and January. Pop-ups and shows range from burlesque to festive street markets, so keep an eye out.

Spitalfields Music, Winter, Festival, London

Fed up of carols? Find some music with a difference at Spitalfields Music – from 4th to 15th December, you can enjoy live music, walks and film screenings as well as family entertainment in this thriving part of town (Spitalfields has to be one of the best, if slightly overlooked, spots in London).

The Jerusalem Tavern, London, Clerkenwell, Pub, Brewery, Winter

Find a roaring fire

Need to warm up after your winter adventures? Find a beautiful, historic pub with a roaring fire and decent ale on tap. A personal favourite is the Jerusalem Tavern in Clerkenwell, which serves St Peters-brewed beers (for those who fancy a hearty British pint). It may not have an actual roaring fire, but makes up for it with a warm atmosphere!
