One of the greatest discoveries I’ve made on the 90 Day SSS Plan is the introduction of coconut oil. This is admittedly one of the more “on trend” products out there – up with avocado and matcha. So forgive me if I’m a) preaching to the converted or b) sounding pretentious, but it really is a miracle product.

A solid oil, coconut is a natural product that is credited with being a superfood – full of fatty acids that promotes fat loss and brain function, fighting heart disease and infection, improving the liver, skin, hair and nails. You can eat it, use it on your skin and hair and even on your teeth (allegedly).

On a recommendation, I picked up a jar of Lucy Bee coconut oil (available from varying stockists, I got mine for £9.99 from Whole Foods). It might seem pricey, but trust me, a little goes a very, very long way. I’ve had this jar for 6 weeks, using it daily for every meal, and barely made a dent.

Just use a small teaspoon at most, and coconut oil works just the same as any other oil – it melts down quickly. Fry up anything you want with it – it smells delicious, but leaves no lingering aftertaste, and certainly no oily excess.

You can also use it as a moisturiser – you may smell a bit like a biscuit, but you end up with silky soft skin. But if you don’t want to do that, simply eating it is enough – it cleans from the inside out, and I’ve already noticed an improvement in my complexion. Even my nails and hair seem stronger!

It’s easy to dismiss the superfoods and popular trends as nothing more than bandwagon excitement, but honestly there is something in this when it comes to coconut oil. Tasty, lightweight, and a perfect ingredient for everything. Invest in a jar now and add it to your new healthy eating and fitness plan.
