Gabrielle Aplin, Artist, Music

It’s been a while since I’ve done a music post on the blog. But I have been listening to Gabrielle Aplin non-stop, and thought I would share her profile! Gabrielle is a 23-year-old British singer-songwriter who rose to fame with her cover songs on YouTube before hitting number 1 in the charts with her cover of The Power of Love that featured in the 2012 John Lewis Christmas advert.

Since then, she has had a string of hits with her distinctive upbeat, folk-like sound. Particular favourites include Panic Cord and Please Don’t Say You Love Me. Her lyrics are fantastically tongue-in-cheek, with a bright, summery sound. It’s the music of festivals, picnics in the park and cold cider with friends. But it is also the music of love stories – the excitement of a new relationship, the heartbreak of the end, and the typical fluctuations in between. She sings about truthful relationships, not Hollywood love stories, and it makes for an exciting soundtrack. Everything about her album feels genuine and sweet.

If you haven’t heard about her before, her latest album, Light up the Dark, is out now and promises more of the same.
