Night Out: Circo Liverpool

The thing about a hen do is that you need something a bit different to make it memorable. Which is why Circo in Liverpool is one of the best spots in town.

Out on the docks, the warehouse-like bar and restaurant hosts three course dinners with live entertainment, plus various packages for whatever you fancy (including afternoon tea and dance lessons). When you arrive, you can order reasonably-priced cocktails at the bar and wait to be seen through to the main room. The bar is gorgeous, decorated in true circus style, complete with slightly creepy clown masks and a stuffed polar bear.

The show itself revolves around the three course meal, with entertainment between courses. As you come in, make sure you look up, because there are acrobats above your head! It’s unnerving and impressive, right before the ringmaster (the amazing Jade) introduces the show. You can order jugs of cocktails for the table, and the table service itself is great – prompt, friendly, and they pretty much know what you’ve pre-ordered, so there’s no faffing around with starters.

If you’re gluten free, there aren’t many options when it comes to food (I picked tomato soup, minus bread, and sea bass and turned down the fruit salad option for dessert). But if you’re not, then the duck starter is recommended and they do an impressive chicken main. The dessert of the day was profiteroles, which were a highlight for the others, and jugs of cocktails on the table are a definite must.

The show itself was super impressive. Aside from the ringmaster and dancers, there were two acrobats whose death-defying loops and rolls above a concrete ground are amazing. Just wait until they get out the fire poi because it’s genuinely one of the best performances I’ve seen.

If you get bored, there’s also a magician who comes to your table, and the tricks are small but fun. They really treat you like royalty (props to Paul, who runs the show) and you never want for anything. It’s a fantastic night out for parties – something a bit different and brilliant entertainment. Keep an eye on their events list as they offer some great nights out, including ECCENTRICO After Dark for over-18s only and the Grand National FREAKend for the perfect accompaniment to the biggest racing event of the year.

Dinner shows start from £37.50 per person

Party packages range from £4.50 for afternoon tea to £110 for the Ultimate Hen Experience
