Eating Out: Niche

Niche, Gluten free, Restaurant, London,

I’ve been meaning to go to Niche for some time now. I mean, a whole gluten free restaurant? What’s not to love? When Gordy and I went to see Trainspotting at the King’s Head Theatre, it was the perfect opportunity.

Niche, Gluten free, Restaurant, London, Chicken liver and brandy parfait

Niche is on the corner of Rosebury Avenue, a chic little spot in Angel, and offers a handful of tables for all-day dining. Make sure you book, because they offer a pre-theatre menu that is incredibly popular. Priced at just £17.50 for a starter and main, and under £5 for a dessert, you can see why.

Niche, Gluten free, Restaurant, London, Cheddar and parmesan doughnuts

Gordy picked out parmesan and cheddar doughnuts and a chicken Caesar salad, whilst I opted for chicken liver and brandy parfait (served with toast and red onion jam) and steak and stilton salad. The service was speedy and the food absolutely delicious. The parfait was creamy and rich, whilst the red onion jam was sharp and light. There’s a certain delight in eating without worrying about cross-contamination and picking anything from the menu (including bread!)

Niche, Gluten free, Restaurant, London, Steak and stilton saladd

The salad was the perfect size, with generous amounts of steak and stilton. I much prefer the bulk of the salad rather than the leafy salad bits, and for a main it was refreshing and light, without filling you too much. To be honest, next time I’m going for the burger, but for a light dinner this was spot on – the steak cooked to perfection, and the stilton rich and thick. Exactly what you need from a salad!

Niche, Gluten free, Restaurant, London, Chocolate brownie

The advantages of salad mains meant we had plenty of room for the dessert. I picked the warm chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream, whilst Gordy chose the white chocolate and peanut butter blondie with ice cream. I’m telling you now, if you go for nothing else, go for the blondie. That thing is pure bliss in a baked good. Honestly, my brownie was nothing compared to that. Ridiculously delicious and the highlight of the whole meal.

This little place is well-priced, well-situated and totally gluten free. It’s officially my new favourite place. Just for the blondie.
