Summer Season: Roof East

Roof East, Rooftop bar, London, Stratford, Summer

Rooftop bars are almost as London as brunch with avocado. And – despite what the weather has been implying – rooftop season is upon us again. I’ve tried out a few rooftop bars the past couple of summers, but nothing has been quite as good as Roof East.

It’s the top floor of a car park in Stratford, but please don’t let that put you off. This rooftop bar offers all kinds of events and activities to keep you occupied, plus as much cider, burgers and chips as you can manage. Prices are mid-range in the grand scheme of things, but the good news is you won’t be paying through your nose for a glass of wine.

This summer, try your hand at lawn bowls, or in a batting cage with custom-built nets from Sluggers. Chow down on wood-fired pizzas, flow with rooftop yoga, or pull up a deck chair for the Roof East cinema club (starting with a triple bill of Mary Poppins, The Matrix and Shawshank Redemption over the next three nights). You can also view the beautiful new artwork from Louis Masai, who paints endangered species to raise awareness for their protection.

Roof East is opening tonight, and will be open throughout the summer. No doubt I will spend many nights there myself. The best time is at sunset, so you can watch it go down over the Olympic Park. And make sure you try out some of the cocktails they have on offer – worth the trip alone!
