Things to do in London this January

Thursday 4 January 2018 by

Just because Christmas is over doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. You can beat the January Blues with my top five things to do this month…

Winter Lights Festival, Canary Wharf

State-of-the-art light technology is set to illuminate Canary Wharf for the third year running in the Winter Lights Festival. 30 spectacular artworks, installations and experiences – many of them interactive or responsive – showcase works from some of the most exciting international artists today. Think angels, graffiti and floating poetry. Running from the 16th to the 27th January, this is not to be missed.

Ice Rink, Canary Wharf

If you haven’t already found yourself at one of the many ice rinks in and around London, then be sure you don’t miss the ice rink in Canada Square Park, Canary Wharf. Open until the 24th February, this is one of the longer running ice rinks and one of the most beautiful. There is a rink-side bar if you don’t want to risk the ice, plus a skate path under the trees and a dedicated area for young ones. Book online now

Basquiat: Boom for Real, Barbican

By far one of the best exhibitions I’ve been to in a long time, Basquiat: Boom for Real is on at the Barbican until 28th January. An intense retrospective of one of the brightest burning stars of the art world, the Basquiat exhibition tells the story of the brief and dazzling career of this young artist – who tragically died at 27.

Hot Gin Roof, Soho

If you’re not observing Dry January, then the Ham Yard Hotel roof in Soho may well just be the place for you. Sipsmith gin is the star of this pop-up cocktail bar, with warming winter cocktails ready for your taste buds. There are blankets available for you to snuggle up, whilst the hot cocktails are heated by hot poker. Choose from the likes of hot negronis and reverse martinis to a simple hot G&T. You can book online here, between the 20th January and the 14th February.

Re:Solutions Festival, Spitalfields

Already underway, the Re:Solutions festival is a 30-day celebration of all things health and wellness at Juju’s Bar and Stage in Spitalfields. Events include yoga and martial arts classes, motivational talks, workshops and mini-retreats, plus performances and parties from some of their collaborators.
